Final trailer & Evaluation

Here is my final game trailer for unit 53. I created a game trailer for an Iron man game using Flash. I created an animation for an iron man game because originally, I created the character for some After effects demonstrations. I decided to continue the development of this character all the way through the unit.

Evaluation

During this unit, I feel that I have developed my skills to enable me to create a 2D animation. To begin with, I collected research on game trailers, I feel I did this effectively which helped me create a professional 2D animation with professionalism.
during this unit I learnt a lot on after effects and in Flash. I learnt how to animate in adobe after effects text, shapes and sounds. I also learnt about the puppet pin tool, this is where you can an animation seem more realistic. I learnt how to create a frame by frame and a rotoscope. Having learnt all these, I was able to take more skills into my final development and in future animations.
I gathered sounds for my final animation because this would bring the animation alive. I took the audio files, which were free to download and took them into Audition so they would fit well with my animation. I am happy with the sounds in my animation, but I think that I would have liked a soundtrack to go on throughout the game trailer.
I created many graphics for my final animation which took up time I could have spent creating a more solid animation. Although the graphic creation took time, I feel this is what made the animation good, the graphics were the real strong point of this animation and I am happy with how them came out.
Overall, I feel I created a solid 2D game trailer with good graphics and sounds. I feel that my animation was not as good as I would have liked is because of my Flash skills, I was not able to animate certain things very well which did make some things look bad, but I create my animation independently and effectively.

Presentation

Here are screen shots of my presentation I gave. In this I explained what I had completed during my time on this unit. I received positive feedback about my presentation, I was told that it was a good, clear animation, which was completed with good use of audio.

Papercraft model

Today we drew out a template for a 3D paper model. I chose to make my character for my game trailer.

Sounds

For my animation, I have collected some audio pieces and taken them into adobe audition so they will be suitable for my final animation.

Rotoscope and frame by frame

Rotoscope animation

This is a Rotascope clip from the Forza Motorsport 5 trailer.

Rotoscope animation is where you draw over a downloaded video, frame by frame. This allows you to draw a video out on a new layer, creating a drawn animation from a video. This method is time consuming but it is an interesting method for animations.

I looked at other Rotoscope animations to see how others use the colour and style.

Frame by frame animation

This is a short video showing you very basic frame by frame animation.

Idea

Man up front, over shoulder looking back at dumpster.
Dumpster opens and man’s head appears where he looks left and right.
Man from dumpster gets out gun.
Shoots man in front.
Dumpster lid closes.

Game trailers

I researched four game trailers to help develop my own game trailer. I looked at GTA 5, Forza 5, F1 2013 and Destiny.

After looking into these trailers, I found key descriptions of each of the trailers; Variety from GTA 5, high detail from Forza 5, drama from F1 2013 and showcasing the character & vehicles from destiny.

As I have made an Iron man character, I will make a game trailer for Iron man 'Iron man game' Firstly you will see the title of the game followed by gameplay 'flying, shooting, boss fight', then followed by release date with consoles. This will be a 2D trailer with the character below.

In this mood board, I have looked at the Iron man film for inspiration. I looked at the setting and the vehicles. I looked at the colours of the environment, the character and vehicles to help my animation seem as real as I can make it.

Some graphics for my game trailer.

I got inspiration from this game trailer and the iron man films. I created these graphics because I feel that it shows the variety of locations and vehicles which could appear in the game.

I also took screen shots from the trailer to use in my animated game trailer.

I wanted to show action and different locations. I did this by having different locations in the trailer and showing action by using tanks and jets in a battle.

Target audience

I intended to aim my game trailer at 12 to 16 year old. I feel that this is the correct age group to aim at because they are at an age where they can enjoy playing as there favourite superhero and be at an appropriate age to witness violence. Although I intend this to be aimed at a younger audience, fans of Iron man and Marvel might play it, so I needed to find a balance within the trailer.I researched game trailers to see how they display the qualities to the audience in different manners. I found that they show variety, detail and drama.

Character creation

I created this character in photoshop using a tablet and then separated the character parts using the lasso tool and putting them in separate layers.

After putting the parts into separate layers, we then imported them into Adobe after effects.

The parts came in all on top of each other, so we had to re-arrange the parts together and move the anchor points so we could animated the body parts.

We then animated the character we created with after effects. I only made small changes to see how the animation works in after effects.

Puppet Pin tool

The puppet pin tool makes the character have a more human effect to it, it makes it flow together. It doesn't work with my character as it is slightly robotic.
